Up until a few years ago there were major sales for festive reasons such as Hari Raya, Chinese New Year, Deepavali and Christmas, as well as seasonal sales, even though Malaysia pretty much has only one season!

If those were not enough, forget the recession as now there is the 'Mega Sale Carnival' where the "whole of Malaysia is (supposed to be) on sale"! And this month-long event is held not just once a year but three times a year: March, August and December.

Mind you, each department store such as Metrojaya, Parkson Grand, Tangs and the likes, as well as smaller retail chains like British India, U2, G2000, MNG (known as Mango in other parts of the world) also have their own sales and promotion periods yearly. Hence, combine all of these great sale occasions and what do you get? Year round great bargains in Malaysia to make you spend, spend and spend!

However, sales are not the only aspect of what makes shopping in Malaysia such a pleasantly thrilling experience. Rather it is the combination of shopping alternatives with each offering different ambience, price range, quality and varieties. It just boils down to what you are looking for and how much you could and are willing to fork out for the stuff you want.

From haute couture fashion found in swanky shopping malls and boutiques to your street stall pasar malams (night markets) blatantly retailing cheap imitation wares and individual retail outlets, Malaysia has much to offer to both locals and tourists. Adding another dimension to this myriad of shopping outlets is the recent invasion of hypermarkets, flea markets and electronic-shopping (e-shopping), offering more choice and variety for an almost endless list of merchandise.
