Build
on 15-acres of land, this three level shopping complex is located
in the township of Bandar Utama. Easily accessible from major highways,
the 1 Utama Shopping Center caters to the suburban middle class
crowd of shoppers. Jaya Jusco is the one of two anchor tenants,
the other being the Swedish home furnishing center Ikea, which incidentally
opened its first, and still their only, outlet in Malaysia at 1
Utama some years ago.

Other stores in 1
Utama include British India, East India Company, Esprit, Somerset Bay,
Elle, Miss Selfridge, U2, Giordano and the likes. (FORGOT VIRGIN VIE)
The children's amusement center, Twinkles, also has a presence here. However,
if you are looking for up-market fashion such as Versace and Escada, 1
Utama is not the place.
The shopping complex,
which also houses a TGV cinema and various food and café chains,
is currently undergoing some renovations. Don't worry as the renovations
are being carried out on part of the complex's parking lot and the area
opposite it. The plan is to construct an overheard bridge to link the
old complex with the new one that is being built.
Another difference
to note of this new mall, which had its soft opening on July 3, 2002,
is its full-fledge concierge service, located at the information counter
on the ground floor, which is said to offer services of that similar to
a five-star hotel! Here, you can ask more than the normal questions regarding
to the mall and tourist and travel related queries. The concierge will
be more than happy to call a cab, make restaurant reservations or even
make F1 ticket bookings for you! Nifty, yeah?
